Automotive December 20, 2022, by Comments OffYour car was picked up and paid for. Notify the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) that you no longer own the vehicle. Here is everything you need to know about notifying the DVLA. Keep reading.
Scrapping a car and notifying the DVLA
The DVLA can be notified in two ways. By mail or online.
The easiest way to notify the DVLA that your car has been scrapped is online. When you visit the DVLA website, make sure you have your vehicle registration number, V5C logbook, and the address of the scrapyard where your vehicle was scrapped. Having your V5C logbook’s 11-digit reference number is also a good idea. If your logbook was issued after April 2019, you’ll find it in Section Four. The ninth section of earlier logbooks before April 2019.
You may also notify the DVLA by post that your car has been scrapped. Although it may take longer, it’s still fairly straightforward. Post your V5C logbook with the following details: name is DVLA, city is Swansea, and postcode is SA99 1BA.
When can I expect a confirmation from the DVLA?
DVLA will notify you as soon as they receive notification that your car has been scrapped. The letter will inform you that you no longer own the vehicle. For future reference, please keep the following letter.
Please contact the DVLA if you have not received this letter within a month of your first contact. If you provided your email address to the DVLA, you should check your inbox for a confirmation email.
What happens if I don’t report my scrap car to the DVLA?
A DVLA failure to notify can result in a £1,000 fine, and you may be penalized or fined if the vehicle is stolen, gets parking tickets, or is towed. If you do not inform DVLA, you will lose ownership of the vehicle.
